Buying Second-Hand
There are lots of places to buy G Scale Second-Hand. The Local area groups that make up our Society are face to face, local, easy.
Alongside those, G Scale Society Journal reaches all members and regularly includes sales.
You can also checkout the Online Traders listed above or in the latest copy of our Journal. Note: these are advertisers so the Society gives no specific recommendation for these firms but they are important parts of our hobby’s community.
Finally, online auction sites usually have a good and change assortment of items. However, you’re reliant on the seller giving realistic descriptions and supporting photos. Particularly for locos and electrical items please be very careful.
Please remember the phrase “buyer beware”, check what your buying carefully, if not sure ask
someone other than the seller for advice and guidance.
Supporting Retailers & Manufacturers
The Society is always keen to promote and support specialist retailers and suppliers. If you’re interested in learning more, please contact our advertising manager:

General Advice on Buying G-Scale
Sizes and Scales
G “Scale” is a bit misleading as there are multiple scales from 1:22.5 to 1:30 that. It’s best to go for makes/brands your familiar with unless you can physically compare with your existing stock. However, with a little thought different scales can be acceptable by avoiding running too obviously different stock in the same train
and watching the scale of figures.
Track
For Track, consider what you are going to run, if battery r/c or live steam then as long as the track is sound appearance doesn’t matter. If track powered, then you’ll need clean track, though old dirty looking track will generally clean up well.
DCC (Digital Command Control)
There are a number of different DCC type control systems that are not compatible with each other and some are out of production.
